50 Złotych General Government
This 50 zloty was issued on March 1, 1940 (the first day of its issue) in the territory of the General Government (Polish territories occupied by the Germans during World War II). At this point, a red light probably went on in your head saying "What was the Polish Złoty like during the German occupation?" well, they were issued by the "Bank Emisyjny W Polsce" ("Issuing Bank in Poland"). It was a German creation created because the Germans wanted to leave the currency unchanged but manage it in the acquired areas belonging to Poland. On the front of the banknote you can see an image of Emilia Plater, an unidentified person (probably a variation on the theme of Sigismund III Vasa) and some sculpture. The reverse shows a cloth hall. Banknotes of the 1st issue of 1940 (like mine) were printed in Vienna. The banknotes feature two inscriptions: the president/president of the Issuing Bank in Poland - Feliks Młynarski and deputy - Rudolf Jędrzejowski.
