Black powder pistol
The black powder pistol shown here is the oldest item in my collection and my first firearm of my own. However, I am not here to share my own experiences, but to share knowledge, so... This type of single-shot black powder guns were produced mainly in the second half of the 19th century (most often in France and Great Britain) and it was a cheap and small alternative to heavy and expensive black powder rifles, intended for mainly for travelers or personal defense (the equivalent of today's compact pistols). This one is decorated with many engravings depicting leaves, the markings on it are three numbers 26 on the trigger guard, barrel and receiver, with the "Z" marking also visible on the receiver, which I suspect is the manufacturer's marking. On the grip you can see the marking "18", but I'm not 100% sure. Even though the gun is about 184 years old, it is still functional (although I do not recommend shooting it), the bullets this gun fires are .44 caliber bullets.
